Both Park Shin Hye and Yoo Yeon Seok starred in two dramas this year; she did low-key, indie-like Flower Boy Next Door and candyfloss but hit Heirs while he starred in sageuk Gu Family Book and rose to super-popularity with Answer Me 1994 which is airing its finale this week. Both of them have been confirmed for upcoming historical movie The Tailors as queen and king. The film will also stars Go Soo (Empire Of Gold) and Han Seok Kyu (Tree With Deep Roots) in the lead roles and it’s about genius royal tailors who make clothes for the royal family. Set in the Joseon era, it tells the story of an older master artisan (Han Seok Kyu) who is a man of rules and principle, and the younger one (Go Soo) who is born with talented hands. The latter challenges the former, establishing the basic story line. Park Shin Hye’s queen character will suffer from loneliness as the king has a cold temperament. I love Park Shin Hye and seeing her in a historical role will be refreshing.
Honestly speaking, this premise sounds boring to me, especially the idea about geniuses in dramaland or in this case, movies, is so overly used that it always makes me yawn with boredom and dullness. But the cast of this film is definitely full of powerhouse actors and experience says that good actors can improve even mediocre material.
The Tailors is directed by PD of Men: An Operating Manual and will start filming in 2014.
