Wonderful Mama with Jung Yoo Mi and Jung Gyo Woon wrapped up this week, passing on the baton to the next weekend drama Passionate Love on SBS. Well, the new show in the line is nothing like what one might speculate going by the title. It is a romantic melodrama that follows the tragic love and success story of a man and woman who get tangled up in tragic destinies due to conflicts in their parents’ generation. The cast includes Sung Hoon (Faith), Choi Yoon Jung (The Queen’s Classroom) and Shim Ji Ho (who was really adorable and a joy to watch in Color Of Woman). The drama is not gaining enough buzz in blogosphere and mostly the articles are talking about it because it stars Kpop group Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun who is making her acting debut through this show.
Passionate Love stars Sung Hoon as third-generation chaebol with perfect looks and money (obviously) and his younger counterpart is played by Lee Won Geun (Ghost), who was in love with Seohyun’s character; she will appear in about 4 episodes, being the first love of our hero. Her younger sister is played by Choi Yoon Jung who is tomboyish, diligent and bright girl, who later gets romantically involved with the hero and his half-brother, played by Shim Ji Ho. Basically, the set-up is your regular love entanglement scenario with the family problems acting as the obstacle. Considering my experience with long weekend shows, I’m trying to stay away from these for the time being. And with the stereotypical premise like this, I have no reason to check this out.
Passionate Love comes from the writer of My Daughter the Flower and Daring Women and the PD did You Don’t Know Women and Love And Hate. Basically, the veterans of long daily dramas.
Passionate Love starts airing from September 28 with the total episode count of 50. Check out the stills (which only feature the teenage leads) and script reading pics.
