Sageuks, sageuks and more sageuks. It seems 2013 will be the year of sageuks just like 2012 was the year of time travel. Our screens are already full of the deluge namely Gu Family Book, Jang ok Jung, Live For Love, Mandate Of Heaven and upcoming Goddess Of Fire, Jeong-yi and now we have another addition to the historical genre: Sword And Flower, which stars Uhm Tae Woong and Kim Ok Bin in the lead roles. It is a period romance set in the Goguryeo era and will tell the story of lovers who are forced to choose between love or revenge due to family strife and contention. The heroine falls in love with the son of the man who killed her father.
Uhm Tae Woong stars as the son of a nobleman and his concubine. He suffers from inner conflicts when his father tells him to kill the love of his life. Kim Ok Bin plays the kind and smart princess, who later turns into a spy in order to take revenge for her father’s death. The drama looks rich in high conflicts and an epic tale of romance and vengeance.
Uhm Tae Woong will be reuniting with the team of his last drama The Equator Man. Kim Ok Bin is returning to dramaland after seven long years after her last drama Over The Rainbow, that came in 2006 and was a story about dancers and singers. She was busy doing films all these years and has movies like The Front Line, Thirst, etc in her filmography. Park Soo Jin has also been confirmed as the girl who has a one-sided love for our hero. I always tend to hate her characters (see My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho and Flower Boy Next Door) but she was quite okay in Boys Before Flowers. Hopefully, she will not be playing a negative role this time.
Sword And Flower is the same drama that was supposed to be Park Shin Hye‘s next before she signed on Heirs. Also, Uhm Tae Woong was considering another sageuk Yi Sun-shin’s Unauthorized Biography, but finally confirmed this show.
Sword And Flower will follow Mandate Of Heaven on KBS and will start airing from July.
